This innovation has been very successful and Asclepieia <\/span><span lang=\"cs-CZ\">were <\/span><span lang=\"en\">converted to regular <\/span><span lang=\"cs-CZ\">sanatoriums<\/span><span lang=\"en\"> where Balneotherapy <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">was <\/span><span lang=\"en\">exercised with system and method, and <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">was almost\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en\">established as <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">a<\/span><span lang=\"en\"> basic need <\/span><span lang=\"cs-CZ\">for <\/span><span lang=\"en\">healthy <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">or unhealthy <\/span><span lang=\"cs-CZ\">people<\/span><span lang=\"en\">. <\/span><span lang=\"cs-CZ\">During t<\/span><span lang=\"en\">he Roman <\/span>domination&#8217;s<span lang=\"cs-CZ\"> era, it <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">reaches <\/span><span lang=\"en\">the climax of its glory. <\/span><span lang=\"en\">Plutarch in his book &#8220;Life of Sulla&#8221; mentioned both,<\/span> <span lang=\"en\">the natural beauty and rich flora and fauna of Edipsos area, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">as well as <\/span><span lang=\"en\">the famous banquets, which almost always accompany the spa. There, along with the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">serving<\/span><span lang=\"en\"> of exceptional quality and wide variety of dishes, bathers had the opportunity to <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">also\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en\">enjoy the spiritual food offered b<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">y <\/span><span lang=\"en\">overnight <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">conversations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-189\" src=\"http:\/\/kritsinelias.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/\u0399\u03c3\u03c4\u03bf\u03c1\u03b9\u03b1-\u0391\u03b9\u03b4\u03b7\u03c8\u03bf\u03c5-3.jpg\" alt=\"\u0399\u03c3\u03c4\u03bf\u03c1\u03b9\u03b1 \u0391\u03b9\u03b4\u03b7\u03c8\u03bf\u03c5 (3)\" width=\"250\" height=\"159\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kritsinelias.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/\u0399\u03c3\u03c4\u03bf\u03c1\u03b9\u03b1-\u0391\u03b9\u03b4\u03b7\u03c8\u03bf\u03c5-3.jpg 282w, https:\/\/kritsinelias.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/\u0399\u03c3\u03c4\u03bf\u03c1\u03b9\u03b1-\u0391\u03b9\u03b4\u03b7\u03c8\u03bf\u03c5-3-100x63.jpg 100w, https:\/\/kritsinelias.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/\u0399\u03c3\u03c4\u03bf\u03c1\u03b9\u03b1-\u0391\u03b9\u03b4\u03b7\u03c8\u03bf\u03c5-3-121x77.jpg 121w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><span lang=\"en-US\">However, it took no longer than a short amount of time, when<\/span><span lang=\"en\"> the role of hydrotherapy <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">was <\/span><span lang=\"en\">misrepresented , <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">moreover, as it happens in most aspects of the Roman&#8217;s way of life.<\/span><span lang=\"en\">The premises of the baths turn into orgies and debauchery areas, leading the prevalence of Christianity in a fierce persecution against all <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">bathhouses<\/span><span lang=\"en\">. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Thus,<\/span><span lang=\"en\"> the spas like Edipsos <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">were <\/span><span lang=\"en\">considered cursed and <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">were <\/span><span lang=\"en\">deserted <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">for a long period of time<\/span><span lang=\"en\">. With the pass<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">age<\/span><span lang=\"en\"> of time and mitigating the <\/span><span lang=\"cs-CZ\">fervid passions<\/span><span lang=\"en\">, the Christianity <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">itself<\/span><span lang=\"en\"> recognizes the value of hydrotherapy.\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en\">Many monasteries were founded near<\/span> <span lang=\"en\">spas and <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the idea,<\/span><span lang=\"en\"> that water washes away the sins, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">prevails<\/span><span lang=\"en\">. The Middle Ages and the Ottoman <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">era<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">do <\/span><span lang=\"en\">not give us <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">any<\/span><span lang=\"en\"> evidence of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">their\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en\">development or decline, while historical references start from 1835, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the year that the <\/span><span lang=\"en\">liberation from the Turks <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">took place<\/span><span lang=\"en\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">At the end of the 19th century the independent Greek state begins its reconstruction process and the Baths of Edipsos certainly follow the same pattern. The street plan of the new city was confided to Bavarian scientists and was an initiative of Queen Olga, according to the modern standards and the first Greek urbanization sample, which was the neighboring spa town of Oreoi, undertook by her predecessor, Queen Amalia.\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en\">Queen Olga, wife <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">of <\/span><span lang=\"en\">King George<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> I., <\/span><span lang=\"en\">had a soft spot <\/span><span lang=\"cs-CZ\">for <\/span><span lang=\"en\">the city, where <\/span><span lang=\"cs-CZ\">s<\/span><span lang=\"en\">he founded <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">her <\/span><span lang=\"en\">homonymous orphanage of that time, <\/span><span lang=\"cs-CZ\">indeed, she<\/span><span lang=\"en\"> was hosted in 1907 for some time at the hotel &#8220;THERMAE SYLLA&#8221;. The touris<\/span><span lang=\"cs-CZ\">tic<\/span><span lang=\"en\"> reconstruction essentially begins in 1896 when the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">big<\/span><span lang=\"en\"> landowner <\/span><span lang=\"cs-CZ\">Errikos<\/span><span lang=\"en\"> Tompazis builds the first modern hotel complex, the THERMAE SYLLA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-192\" src=\"http:\/\/kritsinelias.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/\u0399\u03c3\u03c4\u03bf\u03c1\u03b9\u03b1-\u0391\u03b9\u03b4\u03b7\u03c8\u03bf\u03c5-6.jpg\" alt=\"\u0399\u03c3\u03c4\u03bf\u03c1\u03b9\u03b1 \u0391\u03b9\u03b4\u03b7\u03c8\u03bf\u03c5 (6)\" width=\"245\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kritsinelias.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/\u0399\u03c3\u03c4\u03bf\u03c1\u03b9\u03b1-\u0391\u03b9\u03b4\u03b7\u03c8\u03bf\u03c5-6.jpg 257w, https:\/\/kritsinelias.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/\u0399\u03c3\u03c4\u03bf\u03c1\u03b9\u03b1-\u0391\u03b9\u03b4\u03b7\u03c8\u03bf\u03c5-6-100x77.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 245px) 100vw, 245px\" \/><span lang=\"en\">With the beginning of the 20th century hotels started being built one after another &#8220;<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">HERAKLEION<\/span><span lang=\"en\">&#8220;, &#8220;<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">STADION<\/span><span lang=\"en\">&#8220;, &#8220;<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">AI PIGAI<\/span><span lang=\"en\">&#8220;, &#8220;AIGLI&#8221;, &#8220;AURA&#8221; &#8220;<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">AKTI<\/span><span lang=\"en\">&#8221; and &#8220;<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">ISTIAIA<\/span><span lang=\"en\">&#8221; are some of them. Simultaneously, private spas are created to meet the needs of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">bathers<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">as well as <\/span><span lang=\"en\">luxury restaurants and taverns, clubs with live music and famous orchestral bands. The spa town of that time is the most important domestic and international tourism center. Famous shipowners, industrialists, politicians, artists and intellectuals, spend moments of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">rest and <\/span><span lang=\"en\">relaxation and <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the <\/span><span lang=\"en\">spa is known beyond the borders <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">of <\/span><span lang=\"en\">Greece. Its reputation is characteristic <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">during <\/span><span lang=\"en\">the Belle Epoque. Eleftherios Venizelos, Kostis Palamas <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">and <\/span><span lang=\"en\">the great Marika Kotopouli were some of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the<\/span><span lang=\"en\"> eminent guests.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"en\">Since 1912, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the <\/span><span lang=\"en\">seat of the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">M<\/span><span lang=\"en\">unicipality is transferred to the Baths and <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">with the <\/span><span lang=\"en\">contribution of refugees from Asia Minor, who arrived after <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">19<\/span><span lang=\"en\">22,\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en\">new impetus <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">is given<\/span><span lang=\"en\"> to the development of the city, to fisheries, agriculture and trade. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">During <\/span><span lang=\"en\">the period of German occupation, cosmopolitan baths <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">were fortunate<\/span><span lang=\"en\"> . The occupation army used the hotel complexes <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">for reception and <\/span><span lang=\"en\">accommodation <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">for <\/span><span lang=\"en\">injured <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">soldiers, <\/span><span lang=\"en\">thus<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> avoiding<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">the spa&#8217;s <\/span><span lang=\"en\">destruction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">After the war was over, they are quickly becoming once again the attraction for thousands of visitors. This time they arrive from the prosperous Egypt, Cyprus, Europe and America, people of politics, art and wealth, like Churchill, Onassis, Maria Callas, Greta Garbo, Omar Sharif, and Kostas Varnalis, spent pleasant hours, enjoying the accommodation and entertainment, while Menela\u03bfs Lountemis, at his adolescent age, writes his book &#8220;Good Night Life\u201d while working there as a waiter. Starting the journey from Athens, reaching Chalkida mainly by train, and thereafter by boat to the Baths. Due to lack of proper wharf, the ship anchored in the open sea and the passengers, with their baggage, arrived by small boats on the beach. Since the end of the 50&#8217;s, when the connection by ferry at Arkitsa location of Fthiotida prefecture was made, access became very easy.
